Velue Weiss, by Johannes Zillinger

Regular price £23.00

This fantastic natural wine blends three grapes, Riesling, Grüner Veltliner and Muscat, to deliver a fresh and vibrant summer white that's full of flavour.

Bursting with citrus peel, pears, apples and apricots, with a good level of natural acidity, and even a hint of salt and spice.

Thoughtful winemaking adds tremendous balance, with natural malolactic fermentation adding a softer edge, whilst lees aging provides texture, depth, and further subtle complexity.

Only 15,000 bottles were made.

Why we chose it?

We seek out precise natural wines that deliver on flavour and texture. This one ticks all the boxes.

The wine...

Velue

Named after the village where the vineyards lie, 'Velue' is a natural wine made only with Biodynamically grown grapes. The key to all good natural wines is care and attention to detail. Johannes Zillinger use techniques including skin contact, blending, and Bâtonnage (lees stiring) to craft something special that doesn't rely on additives and chemicals. A wine that can easily be enjoyed on its own, or perfect with fresh salads or crudités.

Biodynamic winemaking is not just a farming choice; it's a way of life according to Johannes Zillinger. Everything used in the winery can be found here - herbs for teas, essential oils used from spraying, and even grazing sheep - elevating a vineyard to a fully biodiverse ecosystem. This environment adds a truly unique character to the wines that are created.

The region...

Weinviertal

Weinviertal is Austria's largest wine growing region, and situated just North of Vienna provides easy access for a visit. It's renowned for growing Gruner Veltliner, but red grapes including Zweigelt are also grown here. A hallmark of these Austrian Lowlands are warm sunny days, but distinctly cooler nights, perfect for allowing slow grape ripening to fully develop the most intense flavours.
