A beautifully balanced and modern Cabernet Franc from New York state, delivering complex flavours, bright acidity and a long savoury finish.
Cabernet Franc is being reinvented by modern winemakers in cooler climates, replacing overly powerful wines with a lighter touch. Fjord makes use of the Hudson Valley's unique conditions to deliver a wine full of ripe berries, tobacco and a touch of spice.
The 2022 growing season was unusually hot and dry, adding to the intensity of this vintage, whilst eight months in French oak barrels adds carefully balanced detail.
This is a bold but balanced red made for a proper dinner and generous food.

It puts a familiar grape in a far less familiar place, showing why the Hudson River Region is building a serious identity around Cabernet Franc.

Cabernet
This wine showcases the best of careful and modern-thinking winemaking. The grapes remain the star of the show, with fermentation occurring naturally. Additional winemaking techniques are carefully considered, including a small amount of oak maturation, adding spice and tobacco to the natural smoky profile of the grapes. A cracking match for roast lamb, mushrooms or slow-cooked beef.
Fjord Vineyards
Fjord Vineyards was founded in 2013 in the Hudson Valley. The winery handles the entire process, using fruit cultivated sustainably and picked by hand. Its vineyards sit close to the Hudson River, where the dramatic landscape carefully creates the distinctive local grape-growing conditions, which Fjord aim to fully capture in their small-production wines.
