Saperavi

Georgia’s native Saperavi grape is central to the regions winemaking heritage. Unusually, it is one of the rare teinturier varieties (deep red juice) producing wines of remarkable colour intensity. Naturally high tannins are traditionally softened through ageing in Qvevri, while vibrant acidity brings freshness and balance. Versatile with food, this wine pairs especially well with rich, fatty dishes, grilled meats, and deeply savoury umami flavours. Keep it for up to 5 years...if you can.

Chelti Winery

Chelti is a multi-generation family run winery, led by Ana and Andria Mirianashvili. Their winemaking remains true to thousand year old local traditions, including of course the use of Qvevri - underground vessels buried into the earth - to ferment and age several of their wines. But the family also blend in a modern approach, using newer techniques that further enhance the wines - stainless steel and oak barrels are used occasionally to deliver a greater range of styles and tastes.

Kakheti

Georgia has an ideal grape growing climate - warm and sunny, and frost free with shelter from the Caucasus mountains. It's hugely varied landscapes offer markedly different conditions - cooler along the Black Sea coast and much drier and warmer in Kakhati in the East, where Saperavi excels. Georgia has an ancient history of winemaking, and many wines today are still fermented using qvevri, giving a rich tradition and uniqueness to many of its wines.
