Gamza, by Chateaux Burgozone

Regular price £25.00

There are some cracking wines coming out of Bulgaria. This one is light in colour and body but crammed full of intense fresh red fruit flavours.

The fruit is handpicked from a single vineyard, then macerated, to squeeze out every drop of flavour - redcurrants, raspberries and cherries. Some light oak ageing adds complexity of tobacco and spice.

A banging red that will intrigue whilst pleasing most palates.

Why we chose it?

A quality red wine with similar characteristics to a Burgundian Pinot. But half the price.

The wine...

Gamza

You could be forgiven for thinking this classy red wine is more typical of a classical French Chateaux in Burgundy rather than the Danube. And Gamza has many similarities to Pinot Noir - bright red fruits, high natural acidity and an earthy quality. The balance to this wine is exceptional, with light oak maturation in Bulgarian oak leaving a silky finish.

Situated on the slopes of the Danube river, this family run winery is championing a new modern and elegant style of Bulgarian wine. As well as producing the first vegan certified wines from Bulgaria, the minimal vinicultural philosophy focusses on three elements - freshness, fruitiness and finesse. All wines are made using local grapes grown exclusively within the estate.

Danube

The Danube Plain presents an ideal geographical location for grape growers. Situated on roughly the same latitude as Tuscany, the climate is moderately warm with bright sunny days but cool evenings. Whilst winemakers have typically harnessed international grape varieties, many smaller wineries are now leading a renaissance of indigenous grapes such as Melnik, Rubin and Mavrud.
