There’s definitely some similarities: light colour, red fruits, and earthy hints. But this is an outstanding wine on its own without the comparison.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEver tried a wine with a huge punch of pomegranate flavour? You'll also get some juicy blackberry, raspberry, and liquorice. What makes it so flavoursome? The grapes are grown high at 700m, and cool nights give more time to develop those intense flavour compounds. Then, at the winery, the grapes are ‘cold soaked’ before fermentation, which releases all those rich notes. And the taste is immense.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCarmenere is a bit like a cross between two of the Bordeaux classics. Soft and silky like a Merlot, with intense dark fruits of a Cab Sav. When done right, it can stand on its own, and this one absolutely does. Bastion de Camerac let the grapes shine in their native soil, and the result is a wine packed with intense black fruits, liquorice and spice, with a little leather developing in the bottle. Add the intensity of flavours that growing in Alentejo provides, mix in some barrel and bottle aging, and you've got yourself one awesome red wine.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAnd because Alentejo doesnn't quite come with the international recognition it derserves, you get pretty good value for money here too. As a less popular variety in an established region with first class winemakers, Dolcetto's often provide fantastic value for money in comparison.
